To 2D or 3D for an architectural detail

First of all, this is not my design.
I am still at a learning stage when it comes to special details such a this one.
The job is a re-clad, and this little area turned out a bit of a challenge.

At work, I did this in 2D, and this is the result:

All the 3D bits were done by eye.
